I couldn't access the Secondary Database after I finished Shipping Configuration

Dear All

Please I need an urgent help

After i finished all Transaction Log Shipping Configuration.

I tried to use the database in the secondary database but i couldn't access it

i saw it in SQL Managment Studio as (Restoring......)

i tired to make a database snapshot from it , i had a message

Msg 1822, Level 16, State 1, Line 1

The database must be online to have a database snapshot.

Please urgently

the secondary database is in a "Restoring" mode in this case, so you cannot take a snapshot of it. this is by-design.

if you do want take snapshot of the secondary database , you can choose the "standby"
mode when you configure the logshipping secondary db.

HTH.

thanks

I cant find sql server on my computer

I installed sql server on my PC, and when I look at the Programs I do
find sql server, but when I click on that I get "configuration tools".
I don't see anything that says "enterprise manager" for instance. How
can I find it so I can make a shortcut to it?
ThanksIf you installed SQLServer2k (not the msde edition) you should find the
Managment SnapIn with the name SQL Server Enterprise Manager.msc
somewhere on your computer (YOu insallation computer). Otherwise you
can also define your own MMC with importing Snapins in any MMC console.

Hi Blackdog157,

In addition to Jens' answer:

- Are the client tools installed oon your workstation?
- If so, are they installed with default settings?

If both questions are answered with "yes", then you should find
Enterprise Manager (as well as Query Analyzer and all other tools) via:
Start / Programs / Microsoft SQL Server / Enterprise Manager

To add to the others... you may to look around the Control Panel/Add Remove
programs to see what is there. SQL 2005 has a report feature within this
that will give you more details.

For SQL 2005 executables look for SqlWb.exe on you Hard Drive and
SQLServerManager.msc, you could also try osql and/or sqlcmd (for SQL 2005)
from a command prompt.

It sounds as if you installed SQL Server Express 2005. The Express
download does not include any other qurey tool than SQLCMD, which is a
command line tool.

However, a stripped-down version of SQL Server Managerment Studio is
available as beta from

I can not start (initialise) report server status from reporting services configuration ma

I have reporting services installed on my machine and just a couple of days back every thing was working correctly until some thing i have no idea of happened and screwed up every thing. No i can not access report manager and report sever. When i open reporting services configuration manager, the server status is not initialised and results in following error in the computers event log.

Service cannot be started. Accessing report manager from the browser also throws this exception.

I'm having the same problem and I was just wondering if you managed to get your report server working

|||

Okay so I got it working.

I got this solution fromAaron Stebner's blog.

Create a batch file with the following commands:

cd %SYSTEMROOT%\WinSXS
for /D %%i in (*vc80*) do rd %%i /s /q
del manifests\*vc80* /q
cd policies
for /D %%i in (*vc80*) do del %%i\* /q

Run the batch file

Then run a repair install of SQL reporting services.

And it should come back.

On my side, i got it working by just un-installing and then re-installing reporting services.

HYPER-THREADING configuration hints

Hi
We have a SQL 2000 ENTERPRISE, running on four Hyper-threaded processors, 8
GIG of Memory, Windows SERVER 2003, connected to EMC.
Does anybody have any general rules for configuration for such a server
(it's going to be OLTP) Should we set the affinity to only use the "REAL"
processors. Should we allow all processors to be used for parallelism or
just the "REAL" ones. Anything else we need to consider?
Right now during load testing we are seeing a lot of CXPACKET waits.
Thanks
Paul
Try setting your MAXDOP to use just 4 processors first and see how that
goes.

HW Requirement for SQL Server 2005

We are running four servers at different sites say A,B,C and D and want
it to connect main Server at head office what would be the
configuration of main server for running SQL Server 2005.There are two
database say X and Y at each server at sites A,B,C and D. X requires
37.4 MB memory while Y requires 154 MB memory. 500 records are
populated in X database at each site While 30000 records are populated
in Y database at each site. What would be HW requirement for SQL
Server?
With regards
Ali Raza RajputHi
Hardware requirements are not just about volumes, other factors need to be
taken into consideration such as response, resilience and recovery. In a
distributed architecture you also need to consider network issues and
connectivity, not just the server on it's own. If you are looking at
replication you should also consider additional hardware if you need to
separate publishers from the distributors. You give no indication of future
volumes or growth rates, this and other unanwered questions make it very
difficult to answer you question. I suggest that you analyse you requirements
in more detail and talk to a hardware vendor.
