I had set my Windows service's Startup Type as Automatic but it is not starting up Automaticall

Hello,

I had created a windows service using C#. I set its Startup Type as Automatic but it is not getting started automatically when my System Starts.

I checked the Event Viewer and it has the following message related to the Windows Service :

Service cannot be started. The service process could not connect to the service controller.

What Does This mean am I missing something.

|||I think the C# forums might be more useful for answering this particular question unless you have a SQL Server Question related to this?|||

Thanks John Gordon,

I had posted it again to the C# Section. By Mistake I had posted it in this section.

Thanks and Regards

Sunil Dutt

I got error when installing MSDE

I got a message when I type in :
setup SAPWD=abc SECURITYCODE=SQL
and setup the MSDE, there is an error said
"Unable to determine system default collatution."
What can I do?
Bill,
I think you cannot use abc, password, or anything that easy as pwd.

check MSDN knowledge base article 823466... may be able to help... also
check knowledge base articles for "Unable to determine system default

"Error 2245 while trying to perform operation NetUserAdd"
I don't understand why this happens. Can anyone help? I've used msde successfully before but this is a new problem recently. I have an AMD 2600+, with Windows XP Pro, 512 MB RAM.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

I don't remember how it was...

Using this system function (::fn_dblog(null,null)) you find out how many transactions are been confirmed in your .LDF. Although by means of another system function you can see further information, i mean statistical ones.

Any help would be very appreciated.

Hi,

how about this one here:

DBCC LOGINFO(db_id)

Select * from fn_dblog(null,null)

There isn't a function by that name. There's a similarly named undocumented and unsupported function (that I'm not going to discuss) for use during troubleshooting by Product Support and the product group.

What exactly are you trying to find out?

i cannot run express after i have installed it

my system meets the requirements and I have installed .net framework 2.0,

why can't i run sql express?

I tried running it from command prompt but nothing happens?

hi,

how did you "run" the SQLEXPR.EXE boostrap installer? please have a look at http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms144259.aspx for command prompt required and supported parameters...

as regards "system requirements", be sure they are satisfied as exposed in http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143680.aspx

and just to be sure () you can have a look at http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143441.aspx as well ...

i am unable to trieve the date in ms-access

hi friends,

I am trying to create alert system in which i can able to retrieve the date while configure the OleDbDataAdapter1 itself the

problem occurs this is the code i tired

select * from table name (username=?) and (date=)

after entering this error occurs

You haven't mentioned about SQL Server version you are using, refer to this http://www.aspfree.com/c/a/Microsoft-Access/Configuring-a-Linked-Microsoft-Access-Server-on-SQL-2005-Server/ link in this case where it explains how you can achieve from SQL Server side.

IN SQL Server 2000 you can use DTS to get (import) the data from any other data provider and you can schedule the DTS package too.

hyphens change between w2K and w2K3 ???

On one system a search for 21-147 returns 1 result - which is the
correct way I need it to work.
However on my new system, this does an OR search, returning all results
with 21 in, and all results wth 147 in which clearly returns hundreds.
These are product part numbers, they /must/ be searchable as they look
on the printed litereature, prefereably only returning 1 correct
result!
I've tried all sorts of things, changing the collation, changing the
word breaker langauge etc
The only other diffrence now is that the first system is on Windows 2K,
and the new one that doesn't work is on Windows 2K3.
As a small fix, i looked for the - and replaced it with an AND. However
some part numbers are of the form N-234S and as such the initial letter
is removed by the noise list and the search returns no results.
This is REALLY important any help would be very greatly appreciated. I
have weeks to get htis working, or the entire web project is down the
pan.
Other info, using commerce server 2002.
Thanks in advance,
Martin
I think you'll have to use another character. For instance have two copies
of your data, one for show and one for indexing. Replace hyphenated words
and numbers with something like 123HYPHEN234.

Also the reason we can't really get rid of the hyphens is due to the

it in query analyser works on the w2K machine for CONTAINS and

HyperThreading and NT Fibers

We've got a customer whose system is performing below average. Example, a billing calculation that takes 13 minutes on my laptop (XP PRO, 2.2 GHz, 1GB RAM, 4200RPM HD, SQL 2000 SP3) takes 28 minutes on their server (WIN2000, 2-1.5GHz, 2GB RAM, RAID5 array
, SQL 2000 SP3). We turned on the performance monitors recently and watched a bill run. The hard drives and RAM were barely used while the 4 processor instances (2 physical = 4 logical with hyperthread) were all consistently above 90%.
We deduced that the processors were the obvious bottleneck but we are unsure why a less powerful machine (my laptop) out-performs the more powerful server. The only thing I can think is that the hyper-threading or NT Fiber setting is adversely affecting t
he processors.
Has anyone had any problems with hyperthreading or NT fibers or have any ideas as to where I might start looking?

|||You can't compare these two systems side by side. For instance your laptop
has a faster processor (even though it only has one) and most likely has
more level 1 cache. The disk in the laptop probably has more cache as well
which can make a big difference over a Raid 5. That said you can still be
running into a multi-processor issue but it is hard to say for sure. Try
running the process with MAXDOP set to 1 and see if that makes a difference.
Are you sure the disk queues are fine? Is there just one RAID 5 and is
everything (data, tempdb, logs) on the same array?

disk queue length on our data drives. A long queue length may indicate a
bottleneck at the hardware layer.

|||I just resolved a performance issue related to the fact that the execution plan was different between my development & production.
It was directly related to differences in hardware, specifically the environments you describe. I wouldn't assume that the execution
plans are the same. I'd run an execution plan in both environments to confirm.
If you find that the execution plans are different (and parallelism is involved), I would suggest looking up the query hint OPTION

which can make a big difference over a Raid 5. That said you can still be
running into a multi-processor issue but it is hard to say for sure. Try
running the process with MAXDOP set to 1 and see if that makes a difference.
Are you sure the disk queues are fine? Is there just one RAID 5 and is
everything (data, tempdb, logs) on the same array?

billing calculation that takes 13 minutes on my laptop (XP PRO, 2.2 GHz, 1GB
RAM, 4200RPM HD, SQL 2000 SP3) takes 28 minutes on their server (WIN2000,
2-1.5GHz, 2GB RAM, RAID5 array, SQL 2000 SP3). We turned on the performance
monitors recently and watched a bill run. The hard drives and RAM were
barely used while the 4 processor instances (2 physical = 4 logical with
hyperthread) were all consistently above 90%.

drives. Yes, it is one big RAID partition but the monitors showed almost no
activity on the disks and very little on the RAM while the processors were
very high.|||Look at the estimated query execution plan on both systems. Also, check the
disk queue length on our data drives. A long queue length may indicate a
bottleneck at the hardware layer.

the process.|||I just resolved a performance issue related to the fact that the execution p
lan was different between my development & production.
It was directly related to differences in hardware, specifically the environ
ments you describe. I wouldn't assume that the execution
plans are the same. I'd run an execution plan in both environments to confir
m.
If you find that the execution plans are different (and parallelism is invol
ved), I would suggest looking up the query hint OPTION
(MAXDOP 1) in BOL.
ChrisG|||I would still change the MAXDOP and see what happens.

when we turned that off. Is that a Dell machine?
Yes, you should turn that off.|||I'll try it and see what happens...
