I get "Error 2245 while trying to do NetUserAdd operation"
I tried installing MSDE 1 and 2 on my system but whenever I try to install it, it come up with the error:
"Error 2245 while trying to perform operation NetUserAdd"
I don't understand why this happens. Can anyone help? I've used msde successfully before but this is a new problem recently. I have an AMD 2600+, with Windows XP Pro, 512 MB RAM.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks

Setup gives me the option, I choose these services, it tells me they are already installed, but they are not?
does it then also give you the option to 'upgrade' them after you hit next?
if not, try going to add/remove programs and hit the change button for sql, it should prompt you for what items to remove, see if you can remove RS.

I can't install SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition
I copied the error I received.
SQL Server Setup cannot install files to the compressed or encrypted folder: C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\. To continue, make sure that your installation directories are not compressed or encrypted, or specify a different directory, and then run SQL Server Setup again.C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\ is not an compressed or encrypted folder. I don't know what it is talking about. I just installed a fresh new copy of Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 2.
There are two things to check:1) Open up Windows Explorer, right-click on the main drive (c:) and select properties. On the General tab near the bottom you'll see a check box labeled "Compress drive to save disk space" make sure this is unchecked. Note: if you have more than one drive you want to check the drive where "%Program Files%" lives. This may not be a the C drive.
2) Next, while still in Windows Explorer go to the root of where %Program Files% lives. This should probably be c:\. Right-click on "Program Files" and select Properties. Click the "Advanced..." button down in the Attributes section. Make sure the two check boxes in the "Compress or Encrypt attributes" group box are un-checked.
Dan|||Thanks a lot! It worked perfectly. |||I do not use any compression of encryption on the hard drive.
The 'C:\Program Files' directory is marked 'Read Only' ?
I have tried several times to install SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition
(most recently from MSDN Disk 3097.1) I have tried to complete an
uninstall before each attempt.
I have installed: IIS and .NET Framework 2.0
I have also used ..\aspnet_regiis -r to register ASP.NET
I am, successfully, running Visual Studio 2005.
I do get the warning about Minimum Hardware Requirement, but can find
nothing in the detail requirements to exclude my PCs configuration.
Any suggestions will be appreciated.

I CANT INSTAL a Virtual Server of SQL 2000 Enterprise in Win2k3 Enterprise
SQL 2000 Enterprise Edition the setup option of Virtual Server appear
unavailable I only choose between Local Install or Remote.
Thanks for your help
Hi Alejandro,
Here are few things I would try:
1) Make sure that you are using SQL Server 2000 Enterprise Edition setup CD
2) Make sure that there are no mdf, ldf or ndf files on your local disks on both nodes
3) Make sure that you do not have another "default" instance of SQL Server/MSDE on the other node.
After taking care of the above things, try the upgrade. If it fails, then cut and paste the sqlstp.log to your post.

Expected Results
Results
1.
Reboot both nodes
They should come up with no error messages
2.
Check Event Viewer on each node and make sure there are no errors that
might interfere with the installation
3.
Check account permissions for the cluster account
Should be part of the Local Administrator group
4.
On each node, on the Start menu, click Run, and then type cmd in the
text box. Click OK.
Ping the Cluster IP Address from all nodes in the cluster; repeat for
each node
To verify that the private and public networks are communicating
properly
They should replay back
5.
Ping the cluster IP address from a computer not in the cluster
They should replay back
6.
Ping the Cluster Network Name from all nodes in the cluster
They should replay back
7.
Ping the Cluster Network Name from a computer not in the cluster
They should replay back
8.
Ping all Heartbead IP Addresses from all cluster nodes
They should replay back
9.
A domain account is available for SQL Server; check permissions for the
account; also the cluster administrator account must be created at the
domain level and must be an administrator of all nodes in the cluster
10.
All nodes have access to the installation path - we recommend to copy
the installation files locally on each node, especially for the services
pack and hotfix;
11.
In Cluster Administrator, for a two SQL Server instance installation,
create 4 groups and assign the correspondent resources to each group (such
as disk resources):
1.. MSDTC Group
2.. Cluster Group
3.. SQLServer Group1
4.. SQLServer Group2
12.
Using Cluster Administrator, test moving each group back and forth
between the two Nodes - check the owner
The owner should change
13.
While one Node owns all the groups, restart the other Node and check if
resource ownership was transferred to the other Node
The owner should change
14.
Check what resources belong to the Cluster Group
It should be: Cluster IP Address, Cluster Name, and Quorum Disk
15.
MSDTC Group
MS DTC should be in its own group; follow the following article to
configure MSDTC: 301600 - How to configure Microsoft Distributed Transaction
Coordinator on a Windows Server 2003 Cluster detailed in Appendix B

GetLastError returns 0x00000485
In the client I haven't installed anything. I only copied the dll and try to register it. Should I install something else?
Thanks in advance|||Does anyone has connected with Excel from other computer than the server?
From the server I can connect.
What whould I install in the computer to connect to the server with Excel?
Thanks in advance.|||
Before you can connect from Excel to the Olap 2005 server, you need to install Microsoft OLEDB for Olap 9.0.
The file you need to install is: pts9.msi - Located in
"En_SQL_DEV_x86_ctp_JUNE2005\Redist\Analysis Services\pts9.msi".

I cannot install SQL 2005 on my computer
Hello everybody,
I had installed vs 2005 beta 2 and I wanted to install SQL 2005, so I removed all the components which were installed and were beta edition by control panel and by the tool microsoft supply.
I downloaded sql 2005 but when I wanted to install it, the installation showed me an error that I need to remove all the components that are beta and exited.
The control panel show that there is nothing from vs 2005 beta but the tool try to remove 2 things and has errors. With Everest I see that the components of vs 2005 beta are still in my computer and I cannot remove them.
Someone can help me? I have been searching for an answer for 3 months without any success.
When I try to uninstall the components from Everst it doesn't do anything or start to uninstall and then stop with the error that it cannot write to cache and cannot read property "InstallIds" {"MachineConfiguration","","BAR"} from cache.
It succeed to uninstall programs which I can see at control panel.
|||Start with http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/express/support/uninstall/ and see where that get you. There are a number of components installed by VS 2005 Beta 2 that must be uninstalled manually, this link will help.

Mike Wachal

I am unable to install SQL Server 2005 on Win XP SP2 box
I get to the point of starting the services and receive the following message after about 4 minutes of trying to start. I tried in Mixed Mode and Windows Authentication Mode. Message:

I am trying to install and config MySQL ... if there is a FAQ I will read ...
My goal is to setup and configure the "Community MySQL server" on
my "Vista" laptop. I want to run the server and clients on the same
"machine" using the "loopback" IP addr (127.0.0.1) to talk between
MySQL clients and the MySQL server.
1) When I run the Config Wizard, I get the following message:
"The security settings could not be applied. Error number 2003.
Can't connect to the MySQL server". I checked via the Vista Task
Manager and there was a MySQL server instance running. I am probably
more of a POSIX API programmer .. in any case I remember that on
Windows 2000 that there was some kind of "system log" .. can't find it
on Vista(through the Control Panel) to get a better error message. Can
somebody point to the "system log" or help me with the error message?
2) I finally tried to run the "mysql_install_db" script to
"instantiate" a MySQL database instance. I ran this script from a
"http://www.cygwin.com" shell because the script is a Unix script. I
got the error: "FATAL ERROR: Could not find SQL file '/
mysql_system_tables.sql' in @.pkgdatadir@. or inside C:/Program."
Suggestions please.

Yes, there is an event log. I don't have Vista so not sure if they've moved
it but on XP you can go to My Computer, right click, click on MANAGE and
drill down from there.
