I can't get SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition working

Hi all,

I can't get SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition working on my notebook with Windows Vista Business Edition. I installed SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition and then i ran SP2 for SQL Server EE.

But now when i a am trying to connect to any server from SQL SERVER MANAGEMENT STUDIO i can't see any Server in Server Name list. When I click on Browse for more, I don't see any server. I am able to get Network servers.

While installing the SQL SERVER all the features were disabled as it is, then i went to advanced and selected all the options.

Any suggestions are apperiacted in advance.

Enterprise Edition (EE) requires a server operation system.

Make sure that you installed SQL Server Express (sucessfully) by checking the Services running on the machine. Look for services name "SQL Server*"

Hi,

Thanks fo your reply.

But the question is that I want to install Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition on My notebook which has

Microsoft Windows Vista Business.

I tried installing Microsoft SQL 2000 Server on my machine and it works fine while it is specified on Microsoft Website

that Microsoft SQL 2000 Server is not supported on Microsoft Windows Vista ( Of Any Edition ).

I installed SQL 2000 Server on my notebook when I got frustrated installing SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition on my

notebook.

I am really frustrated, i should have not gone for windows vista, let the Windows Vista features go to hell.

I am not able configue .NET 1.1 or .NET 2.0 on my notebook.

I wish there was some magic which can fix all these issues.

Hope to read you soon...

Once again, SQL Server EE will need a server OS to run and to be installed. if you have problems installing SQL Server on a vista system (non SQL-EE version) you might have a look here [1] to see what you will have to tweak to make it happen.

|||I think you have something wrong!
According to the document at:
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143506.aspx
It says that I can install SQL Server 2005 - Enterprise Edition in Windows Vista (Ultimate - 32 Bit). But the note "Requires SQL Server 2005 SP2 on Windows Vista" makes me difficult to understand "how can I have SS2005 SP2". I had tried to install SS2005-Developer Edition, and upgraded it to SP2, after that, I tried to install SS2005-EE with hope to upgrade my DE into EE but nothing happened...
Please help me!

I think folks are missing the point here...SQL Server Enterprise Edition can not be installed on Vista, period. Vista is a client operating system and we don't support installing Enterprise Edition on client operating systems. I'm pretty sure this is actually blocked in the installer. You will need to install a different edition if you want to install on Vista.

I am trying to install and config MySQL ... if there is a FAQ I will read ...

Hello,

My goal is to setup and configure the "Community MySQL server" on
my "Vista" laptop. I want to run the server and clients on the same
"machine" using the "loopback" IP addr (127.0.0.1) to talk between
MySQL clients and the MySQL server.

1) When I run the Config Wizard, I get the following message:

"The security settings could not be applied. Error number 2003.
Can't connect to the MySQL server". I checked via the Vista Task
Manager and there was a MySQL server instance running. I am probably
more of a POSIX API programmer .. in any case I remember that on
Windows 2000 that there was some kind of "system log" .. can't find it
on Vista(through the Control Panel) to get a better error message. Can
somebody point to the "system log" or help me with the error message?

2) I finally tried to run the "mysql_install_db" script to
"instantiate" a MySQL database instance. I ran this script from a
"http://www.cygwin.com" shell because the script is a Unix script. I
got the error: "FATAL ERROR: Could not find SQL file '/
mysql_system_tables.sql' in @.pkgdatadir@. or inside C:/Program."

Suggestions please.

Kind regards, Vasya"Vasya" <vigalchin@.gmail.comwrote in message

(though I'll recommend looking at SQL Server Express 2005).

Yes, there is an event log. I don't have Vista so not sure if they've moved
it but on XP you can go to My Computer, right click, click on MANAGE and
drill down from there.

Search and replace / with \ ?
